The brief
Fires In Stone reduced the remaining chimney slightly further to allow a flexible flue liner to be installed in the section that remained.
A top plate was then fitted so a twin wall insulated flue system could continue through the roof, effectively taking the place of the removed brick chimney stack.
How the project came together
The visible fireplace was finished with brick slips, a ceramic geocast beam from Focus Fireplaces and a Bassington cream enamel stove from The Penman Collection.
Because the customer did not want a raised hearth restricting the walkway, a groove was cut into the slate floor and filled with light grey grout to provide the permanent visual hearth indication required for compliance.
