The brief

The fireplace has been built with a strong sense of proportion. The brickwork gives the feature texture and warmth, while the solid stone mantel provides a substantial horizontal line that frames the installation beautifully.

At the centre of the fireplace is the Parkray Aspect 8 wood burning stove. The Aspect 8 is a larger appliance within the Aspect range, making it well suited to a fireplace with this scale and to rooms where a stronger visual and heating presence is needed.

How the project came together

The Italian riven slate hearth is an important finishing detail. Its darker tone grounds the fireplace, contrasts with the brickwork and gives the stove a clean, durable base.

This project works because it does not try to make a traditional fireplace look overly modern. Instead, it combines honest materials — brick, stone, slate and steel — in a way that feels established, warm and practical.
