The brief
The customer wanted a traditional fireplace surround with a level of detail and proportion that could not easily be bought as a standard product. Fires In Stone therefore made the surround specifically for the room, using timber construction and a furniture-grade sprayed finish to create a crisp, elegant result.
The surround has a formal, period-inspired feel, with layered mouldings, decorative detailing and a symmetrical mantel arrangement. Against the grey tiled wall and reflective black hearth, the pale surround gives the whole fireplace a bright, refined presence without feeling heavy.
How the project came together
The electric insert was chosen to give the appearance of a traditional arched fire while keeping the installation simple and convenient for everyday use. It is important to present this accurately as an electric fireplace project rather than a wood burning or gas installation.
The gloss granite hearth adds contrast and depth at floor level, helping to frame the feature and reflect the flame effect from the fire. The result is a fireplace that feels decorative, practical and highly suited to a home where traditional styling is wanted without the maintenance requirements of a live fuel appliance.
