The brief
Fires In Stone constructed a brick chamber on the outside of the house, then knocked through to create the internal fireplace opening.
This approach creates a proper chamber to house the stove while avoiding the need for an existing masonry chimney.
How the project came together
Lesley chose a tiled inglenook chamber and a Portuguese limestone fire surround, giving the new fireplace a traditional and substantial finish.
The stove is the Eco Ideal 2 from Hunter Stoves Group, with the flue handled by Schiedel ICID Plus, a factory-made system taking the role a brick chimney would normally provide.
