100-Year-Old Fireplace Restored with Ecoflame 2 Stove

This project is all about restoration and respect for the original fireplace. A 100-year-old feature was carefully brought back to life, with the stonework cleaned and redressed, the brickwork raked out and repointed, and an Ecoflame 2 multi fuel stove installed within the opening.

The brief

The finished fireplace keeps the character that only age can provide. The stone surround has a worn, natural texture, while the exposed brick chamber gives the installation depth and warmth.

Rather than covering the original materials, the project highlights them. Cleaning and redressing the stonework allows the fireplace to retain its aged appearance while looking cared for and purposeful again.

How the project came together

The Ecoflame 2 multi fuel stove sits neatly within the restored opening. Its simple black body contrasts with the brick and stone, giving the fire a clear frame without overpowering the historic character of the fireplace.

This type of work requires a different approach to a new-build installation. The success comes from knowing what to preserve, what to repair and how to introduce a modern appliance without losing the soul of the original feature.

Details worth noticing

The result is a fireplace that feels authentic, usable and full of character — a restored period feature that can now provide real warmth and atmosphere for everyday living.
